Blooming Rose

A lot of golf punters were left cursing the unusually bad wedge play of Phil Mickelson on Sunday as he let slip his best chance of winning the US Open at Merion. Lefty was his usual wild self throughout the round but was left ruing mistakes on 13&15 to let his grip of the trophy slip. The most solid performer of the day,and indeed the week, was the winner Justin Rose. He was tied 2nd for fairways hit (42/56), and tied 7th for greens in regulation (50/72) . These are two very important stats if you want to win this prestigious championship. Crucially Rose's worst score of the week was a bogey which shows how patient he stayed, taking his medicine when in trouble and taking advantage when he hit good shots. Compare this with Sergio Garcia who was +13 for three holes during the week and played the other 69 holes in + 2 !!!!! (Hell win one soon!!!!) All in all it was a brilliant US Open with drama all the way to the end and keeps our appetite whetted for Muirfield in July ! Huge congratulations also go to Simon Thornton from Royal County Down as he won his maiden event on the European Tour yesterday on French soil at Aa Saint Omer GC. He led after 54 holes but was made to battle all the way, making par on the first playoff hole with Sth. African Tjaart Van der Walt. The Irish Open will be staged at Carton House next week and Thornton is sure to get a rousing reception on his return. Cillian and myself will also be onsite on Sunday as part of the Golf Ireland Team so please come and say hello to us!!! #irishopen #golfireland http://youtu.be/IJgpbG5N3v0 You can follow us on Twitter and Facebook live from the event and any other time you like!!!!! https://twitter.com/AdareGC https://twitter.com/babypro
